HWISE Members Awarded the Society for Anthropological Sciences 2020 Carol R. Ember Book Prize

We would like to officially congratulate HWISE members Dr. Alexandra Brewis and Dr. Amber Wutich, whose book Lazy, Crazy, and Disgusting: Stigma and the Undoing of Global Health was awarded the Society for Anthropological Sciences 2020 Carol R. Ember Book Prize earlier this month. Lazy, Crazy, and Disgusting: Stigma and the Undoing of Global Health  is an exploration of how stigma has been used as a public health tool and how this has effected peoples at the margins of society. Through examples of public health programs on sanitation, obesity, and mental illness, the authors provide evidence that the stigma created by these programs negatively affects community health. An argument is made for the elimination of stigma within public health programs to promote global social justice [book description from the Society for Anthropological Sciences]. Congratulations Dr. Brewis and Dr. Wutich on your amazing work!
